The coach

Andrew Olsen

Player-coach: 10+ years in Hamilton futsal, assistant coach of the Waikato U16 Rapids — and still playing for the Waikato Rapids men's team in the Futsal Super League.

His story

Ritmo means rhythm

Andrew has spent more than ten years playing and coaching futsal in Hamilton — from school courts to the national Futsal Super League. Along the way he completed a Bachelor of Sport & Marketing at the University of Waikato and earned his New Zealand Football futsal coaching award.

He started RitmoFutsal for one simple reason: love for the game — and to give kids a place for movement, competition and fun. The small-sided game gives every player hundreds of touches a session; there is no faster way to build quick feet and quicker thinking.

Because he still plays at national-league level, kids aren't coached from a clipboard — they train with someone who does everything he asks of them, every week, in real games.

My son came home buzzing every single day of the week. He is already asking when the next programme starts.

Questions parents ask

What is futsal, and how is it different from football?

Futsal is five-a-side football played on a hard court with a smaller, low-bounce ball. Every player gets far more touches than on a full pitch — which is why it builds quick feet and quicker decisions faster than almost anything else.

What ages do you coach?

Programmes and coaching run in two groups: ages 9–14 and ages 14–20. Not sure where your child fits? Get in touch and we'll place them where they'll get the most out of it.

What should my child bring?

Indoor sports shoes, a drink bottle and clothes they can move in. All futsal gear is provided.

What if we can't make a booked session?

Let us know as early as you can and we'll do our best to move you to another session. Cancellation terms are on the booking page.
